A carpenter can have all the fancy tools in the world, but they’re not very useful to him without a proper place to use them. A simple car garage is the ideal place to do carpentry work. It protects you from the weather, provides enough light to continue working into the night and also provides the essential flat surface where your saws and projects can be positioned and worked upon.

But anyhow, I just don’t have a garage and probably won’t have one for awhile. So I put together this simple sawhorse worktable. It’s not the fun project that I’ve been eager to work on, but the fun project is never going to happen without a boring surface on which to build it. So the worktable had to come first.

I made it with five 2x4s and three 2x12x8 boards, all pine. I bought only three of the 2x12s because I was planning at Home Depot to make sawhorses that are only three feet wide. But as I was building them, I realized that the extra six inches on both sides would be helpful, keeping the sawhorse legs out of my way. So now I need another 2×12 in order to have a table depth of four feet. There’s no need to screw or fasten the boards to the sawhorses unless you’re applying lateral pressure to them. When your work is done, remove the boards and store them somewhere. The sawhorses can also be put away, ready for the next project. If you’re in the Hollywood, FL area and need a couple of sawhorses like these, you can have them for $50. You can also have the 2x12s for an extra $50. Send me an email if you’re interested or just purchase them here.
