What are your plans for June? As for me, it’s simple – I need to buy a house near where I work. This commute is draining me in every way.

Last week, Aniela and I made an offer on a house in the Clear Creek area of Houston, which is sorta between Pearland and Friendswood. That was a big deal for us. The house was nicely renovated and we were already getting excited about living there. Our offer, however, was around 10k less than the seller’s asking price. I know that such an offer would offend some sellers, but we were just going along with what we could afford.
The seller came back with a counteroffer that was only 2k less than his asking price. So instead of meeting us halfway, he just went down a little bit. And although we certainly did like the house, we didn’t make any attempt to come back with another offer. I went onto Zillow again and started looking at properties. I found one in the Pearland area that seems to be ideal for us.
Our realtor, who is an excellent realtor, agreed to meet us there on a Sunday afternoon. We went to see it and really liked it. I don’t want to get my hopes up too much. There’s a lot of research to do, but I’m super excited about this one. Hopefully it works out.
Wednesday, June 20, 2018- Pearland It Is!
As I mentioned on June 11, after rescinding the offer we made on a house in the Clear Creek area, we found a house in the older part of Pearland that we really like. And I’m happy to say that we’re moving forward with the purchase! We’re hoping to close around July 10. The house is 10-12 minutes from where I work, which is going to make a huge difference for me. I’ve been driving around 3 hours a day since I moved here from Florida 3 months ago. All this driving has taken a huge toll on my car, my body and my mind. And I’ve spent hundreds of dollars on tolls.
I have a lot to say about this new home of ours. I’ll write a post about it as soon as I get a chance. But I’m going to be a busy busy man all summer long. One project after another is already lining up. I’m really looking forward to it.

I’m one of those people who thinks and talks a lot about the ripple effect of our actions. So you can imagine how fascinated I am that I was offered my current job because the previous guy went and pursued another job. I don’t know the details…perhaps the other job paid more. In any case, he left with very little notice and therefore my boss needed to fill the position fast. So I had to make a quick decision, but it was an easy decision to make. Click here to read all about that decision in my post, We’re Moving to Houston.
So the interesting thing about the guy who quit is that he ended up coming back to work for this company, but in a different role in another department. I guess the other job didn’t work out. And it turns out he’s a really nice guy. He’s a big Astros fan and I enjoy talking with him. The other day in the breakroom, I tried to communicate to him how his temporary stint at the other company had drastically changed my life. It created a little window of opportunity for me to move to Houston with my family and to be reunited with my folks. And now we’re in the process of buying a house in Pearland.
None of this would’ve happened if he’d simply kept the position that I now have. He didn’t seem to want to join me in making a big deal out of all this, but that’s why I have a website…so I can make a big deal out of things that interest me.

Aniela, Abram and I are headed to Austin for the first time in a long time to hang out with some friends who we haven’t seen in a long time. Keeping up with friends is something I’m not very good at. And I’ve realized over the years that the people who end up becoming my friends are the ones who do all the work of keeping in touch. That’s a little selfish on my part, I know. But then again, there’s so much work to do these days.
Anyways, Abram’s growing big and strong in his 8th month. This is his first trip to Austin. He’s ready.
